Peace like a lotus flower...and cold bums

We started off our exploration of Delhi with a trip to the Bahai Lotus Temple. This building is a phenomenal piece of architecture surrounded by 26.6 acres of beautifully manicured lawns and gardens smack dab in the middle of Delhi. The temple is shaped like a lotus flower which is a symbol of purity in the Hindu religion. It is surrounded by nine large pools of water that enhance the beauty and play a significant role in the cooling system.

In order to enter the temple we had to take our shoes off about two hundred yards before entering the temple (hence the photo of our toes). When you enter the temple for prayer no talking is permitted. What a great way to start off our journey, in a beautiful place with a prayer to the most high. At this point I am feeling pretty spiritual...I am feeling zen and alla that. So I enter the temple which is breathtaking. I make my way down one of the gorgeous marble pews to take a seat. After sitting down I almost immediately jumped up and start shrieking (I didn't)...that marble was sooooooooo frickin' cold, it cut right through my jeans!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah!LOL! Fortunately I brought a sweater with me which I sat on and continued my zen experience. I thanked God for all his blessings (including all of you) and prayed for travel mercies.

For those of you who are wondering, no I am not converting to Bah'i but as far as I am concerned anyone who believes in loving thy neighbor, abolishing predjudices, equality of the sexes, universal education, elimination of extreme wealth and poverty and investigating the truth, can't be all bad. I think there are things that we could all learn from them.

After the temple it was time for lunch where we proceeded to commit the sin of gluttony...sigh!
